What is PD@GE?

PD@GE is GE’s new professional development system that’s meant to replace its 40-year old performance review process.

The folks at GE gave us a sneak peek at their professional development system; we’ve got some screenshots to share below.

A central part of PD@GE includes:

  • Touchpoints: these are ongoing discussions with your manager, which are only visible between you two.

  • Insights: these are comments shared by your colleagues on what you’re doing well and not so well.

PD@GE’s Biggest Flaw

The PD@GE’s feedback section is by far and away the weakest component of their product development module. As this actual screenshot shows, the feedback tend to be:

GE needs to go beyond traditional feedback; their employees are smart enough to tell that the peers and managers are far from insincere with their praise. As a result, the feedback will simply get discarded.
